Do you ever feel like…wow…I’ve found my place and my people?

Do you ever think…yes…this is the place where I thrive and grow?

Do you ever realize…finally…this is what I’ve been looking for!

There are a lot of different ways to find that feeling, but few are as powerful as the communal feeling of sharing, learning, and growing together with a group of highly intelligent, highly caring, highly enthusiastic leaders of learning! I just got back from the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) Apex event in Orlando, FL hosted by Corinium Global Intelligence. Corinium believes in “Connected Thinking” and this is the best example of connecting leaders with thought that I have ever seen. To be in the room is great, to have a seat at the table is crucial, to stand in front of this group…is something few can experience.

I’m honored and humbled to have chaired this important event. With so many talented people in the world and so many wonderful leaders in the room, I am grateful, excited, and energized!

Biggest takeaways?

  • You are not alone! We all have similar challenges and it is okay to share with colleagues and peers outside your four walls.
  • Failure is not only okay…it is better for your learning trajectory. We learn more from fixing failures than from conferences or books.
  • Technology exists today with AI/VR that will blow your mind! We need to tap into it now to stay ahead of the curve in learning.
  • Connection does not end at the end of a conference. Keep the conversation going well beyond the last session.
  • Accountability is for leaders too. Find an accountabilibuddy and make a SMART plan to ensure you are each on track for your goals!

There are so many more incredible takeaways from this session but I can’t give it all away now can I? I hope to see you at the next CLO in June!

Wow! What a great conference! Congratulations to #DallasHR and #HRSWC for the phenomenal conference this week in Fort Worth, TX. I had the distinct honor of speaking on core values and their importance in any organization. I was also able to learn from other experts, share with colleagues, and connect with like-minded professionals on topics that matter to every company.

The highlight was meeting Celebrity Chef Carla Hall! She was an engaging speaker and an exceptionally sweet person. So willing to share and be open about her authentic self. Thank you Carla, DallasHR, and everyone involved in making it a great conference. Can’t wait until next year!

Last week, I had the great honor and opportunity to sit as chairperson for the 4th Corinium Global Intelligence – Chief Learning Officer Forum – Fall 2018, in Boston, MA. It was a tremendous event which drew out many of the world’s top learning leaders both as speakers, panelists, and attendees.

There were numerous key takeaways from this conference, both in the form of lessons learned and what we should be looking forward to in the coming years. And while I don’t want to give all the secrets away, I will share two key points…

  1. Mobile strategy is a must (if it is possible in your business)
  2. As a learning leader…you are not alone

We learned that in the IOT (internet of everything) culture and future, mobile connectivity is both bringing people together and making them feel more isolated at the same time. (conundrum!) Whether that isolation is felt or not, mobile devices will only get more powerful and will continue to grow in usage and leverage. If you and your business do not have a mobile learning solution for your users…it is time to get connected! To celebrate our commitment to mobile strategy, we took a groupie (a repurposed selfie).

We also learned that being a leader of learning can be lonely and confusing. Am I going in the right direction? Is this platform going to help? Did I design this correctly to reach the most users in the best way? Will the users care about this content? How can I get more learners to be engaged in the content we are creating?

It is these types of questions and more that we discussed over three days and I happy to say, while I have new answers and new directions…I also have a better sense of community with learning leaders across a broad spectrum of industries. We are in this together! Only through sharing our ideas, our accomplishments, our struggles, our challenges, and yes, our failures, do we grow and improve as a community. You are not alone!
