The Exhibi7ion

I am delighted to share this 18×24 pencil drawing, “The Exhibi7ion”.

My rendition of The Seven Deadly Sins on full museum display. “The Exhibi7ion” is an all pencil and colored pencil drawing on thick 18×24 watercolor paper. This 7 month drawing features each of the deadly sins in all their symbolic splendor.

Each sin is represented by the animal skull that symbolizes that sin. Each of the sins is surrounded by items and ideas that personify its characteristics.

Envy, represented by the corvid’s skull, is all alone and up on the shelf, missing out on the party.
Greed, represented by the fox’s skull, is guarding his acquired treasure.
Wrath, represented by the mounted ram’s skull, is staring angrily at the viewer.
Lust, represented by the bunny’s skull, is the center of attention on her heart-shaped pedestal.
Gluttony, represented by the pig’s skull, is taking up too much space and has cracked the altar under his weight.
Sloth, represented by the sloth’s skull, has been put under the table and is withering away in the dark, forgotten.
Pride, represented by the cat’s skull, is on the most prideful pedestal and positioned in front of the royal frame.

Each sin is further represented by the icon etched in the concrete altar.

Envy, the snake.
Greed, the coin.
Wrath, the sword.
Lust, the rose.
Gluttony, the chalice.
Sloth, the hourglass.
Pride, the crown.

By examining close-up you will also see the VII ‘step and repeat’ pattern on the ripped wallpaper. And the wallpaper even has seven ripped sections.

This was so much fun to make, it was a ‘sin’. I hope you find as much pleasure in it as I did making it…just for you.
